I painted this from a scene I saw in real life while backpacking the Teton Crest Trail in Wyoming. We were hiking up Hurricane pass and started to hear a high-pitched chirruping sound. We couldn't figure out what it was until we saw a marmot...and then another one! This one was very bold and came within just a few yards of us. That's how I was able to snap a reference photo of this cute little guy and then paint it back in my studio.
